the top challenges in learning: engagement

Caleb

The Learning and Performance Institute (LPI) recently revealed that one of the top challenges heads of learning are facing in the current landscape is the matter of engagement. We hear the word engagement a lot in the world of learning but what does it actually mean?

Caleb shares his insight into what he sees as the fundamental layers within engagement that we must get right to connect emotionally with the learner and truly have a meaningful impact.

“I really think there’s a connection between what we think is important and how we get the best out of people – which is through human connection, rather than just a list of jobs to be done or tasks to be done in a day. It’s how we’ve evolved learning.”

We believe it’s about following a journey you passionately believe in, connecting with humans emotionally, and most importantly – enjoying your time at work. This vision isn’t a million miles away. It’s happening now and people who recognise that their people are truly fundamental to how businesses survive, are the ones who are winning

It’s crucial to ask the question at the start of a project, what’s the impact? What’s the problem you’re trying to solve? Only then can you work up a solution that covers every layer, to tug at the emotional heartstrings of an employee to get them to truly invest in what your trying to achieve and ensure they’re along for the journey.

Caleb Foster Digital Learning Geek
After gaining more than 20 years of experience in operational excellence in the hospitality and digital learning sectors, Caleb wanted to rid the world of dull ‘click next’ and ineffective elearning and solve the epidemic of uninspiring digital learning. Mindboost began back in 2016, when Caleb, saw a huge opportunity to create better quality digital learning content that connects with learners emotionally to encourage a desire to learn more. Caleb realised there was a lack of true understanding of an organisation’s culture and inner-working when learning providers were presented with a request from a client. So, the Mindboost team get under the cover of an organisation’s performance need and ultimately look to connect with learners emotionally. When a learner is connected emotionally, they tend to start believing in a change, this then generates a feeling and makes a greater impact within the organisation than just conveying information.
