from BMX tapes to creative director:
Owen’s path to mindboost.

Owen’s creative journey started long before job titles and career ladders. As a teenager, he was already hooked on digital media, filming BMX edits with friends, experimenting with early design tools and teaching himself how to tell stories through visuals. That curiosity eventually became a career path.

At college he studied computer science and design, before moving into digital media at university. By the time he graduated, he’d already built up a toolkit across Flash, 3D and action script, skills that let him blend the technical with the creative.

shaping experiences, not just visuals

Owen’s early career saw him working at Epic and Kino, where he rose to become an Art Director. While at Kino, he helped design and develop the ADAPT framework, sharpening his eye for how learning and creativity overlap. It was also where he first crossed paths with Caleb then a client at Compass.

Over time, Owen realised his real strength wasn’t just producing visuals, it was shaping experiences. Whether it was video, animation, prototyping, or branding, his instinct was always to ask: “How will this feel for the learner?”

“Design isn’t about making things look good. It’s about solving problems in a way people actually want to engage with.”

finding the right fit

When Kino went through a major overhaul, Owen found himself at a crossroads. The next step needed to be a place where creativity wasn’t boxed in, and where experimentation was part of the culture. That’s when Mindboost came calling.

Joining as Creative Director, Owen brought both craft and philosophy: keep things fresh, keep them human, and never settle for the obvious answer.

A team fuelled by curiosity

At Mindboost, Owen thrives in the freedom to experiment. Whether it’s building prototypes in Figma, shaping a brand identity, or crafting a piece of animation, his approach is never about “what’s been done before.” It’s about pushing things further, always with the learner at the centre.

“What I love here is that we’re not constrained. We keep up with trends, but we don’t chase them. We ask: what’s the right solution for this challenge?”
